The VAS (Variable Axis System) side pod and pivot cover are smaller in size and positioned lower on the shell to increase the potential to glance off impact energy. The helmet is constructed from Super Fiber and other special synthetic fibers developed for F-1 helmet visor panels, assembled and bonded by Arai experts. A specially-developed resin creates stronger bonds between shell materials with less weight, resulting in superb tensile strength due to carefully-positioned materials and light weight resin.

It features a unique Variable Axis (VAS) shield and side pods which allow the shield mount position to be lower than most helmets. The dual function lever releases both the side pod and the face shield for quick and simple face shield removal, capturing and holding the face shield closed securely. It also provides a de-mist position to slightly crack the shield open, and the larger latch design allows for intuitive and seamless operation. The VAS MAX Vision shield is standard and comes with a clear anti-fog Pinlock insert to provide better visibility in all seasons and types of riding.

Typically, the shield mounting position must remain relatively high, but the VAS (Variable Axis System) has a moving pivot point that enables shield opening and closing even with the lower shield position.
