Arai, in their characteristic fashion, has gone a step further in helmet technology with the Corsair-X Helmet. This helmet not only protects against direct impacts, but is specifically designed to minimize the forces of "glancing off" impacts as well. Arai has engineered a stronger shell and a smoother shape that is more likely to redirect impact energy rather than absorb it, therefore decreasing the amount of force transferred to the body. To increase the potential to glance off impact energy, the VAS (Variable Axis System) side pod pivot cover is smaller in size and positioned lower on the shell. The helmet is constructed from Super Fiber and other special synthetic fibers developed for F-1 helmet visor panels, assembled and bonded by Arai experts. A specially-developed resin creates stronger bonds between shell materials with less weight, and the shell has superb tensile strength due to carefully-positioned materials and lightweight resin. The helmet is DOT Approved and meets FMVSS 218 Standards. The VAS (Variable Axis System) shield and side pods are exclusive to the Arai Corsair-X Helmet, and the variable axis allows the shield mount position to be lower than most helmets. The dual function lever releases both the side pod and the face shield for quick and simple face shield removal, and captures and holds the face shield closed securely. Furthermore, it provides a de-mist position to slightly crack the shield open. The larger latch design allows for intuitive and seamless operation. The VAS MAX Vision shield is standard and provides better visibility in all seasons and for all types of riding, and comes standard with a clear anti-fog Pinlock insert. The VAS (Variable Axis System) allows shield opening and closing even with the lower shield position, which is a departure from the norm.
